Dear Friends,
We are celebrating our second anniversary here at Reaching Beyond Borders. Two years ago we began with only a vision. The vision was to help prepare future missionaries for difficult times in a foreign field. When we first began there was no strategy, no money, and no missionaries. Piece by piece God began building. First, our strategy became clear after meeting Missionary Gil Anger in October of 2006. The Lord then began to steadily send in funds to improve the facility and schedule our first camp. Now over thirty young men and women have completed the missionary training. In May we were able to coordinate a trip to Peru with about a half dozen laymen to help the Dover family move to a small village in the jungle. Jason Dover and his family had attended the first mission camp here in 2007. This was a life changing experience for those of us who went and it was certainly a blessing to the Dover family to see the concern that those back home had for them. My family and I started out alone in this ministry, but the Lord has been faithful to send laborers. Last year my parents joined us full time, and this year Steve and Candice VanBeek have joined the team. We are excited about what the future holds for us here as we serve those who lay down their lives for Christ.
The finances for the ministry have been provided in a supernatural way since day one. The primary source of income for this ministry is the direct result of a business that was founded to relieve us from the stress of raising funds for the maintenance of the property and day to day expenses of the ministry. We are very grateful for those individuals who have given sacrificially and for the monthly support we receive from a handful of Churches. However, please pray for the business to generate adequate income for the camp. The plan is to finance this ministry, at least the majority of it, by hard work and personal sacrifice. This will allow local Church dollars to go directly overseas to those who need it most.
The 2008 mission camp was better than we even expected. What a blessing it was to see great men of God pass on first hand experiences to those who will follow in their steps. In 2009 we will be operating two more camps for those ready to leave and those who are just surrendering.
If someone you know is contemplating or preparing for the mission field, this is an excellent opportunity for them to experience some of the obstacles they may face in a foreign ministry.
